I have an FS301 for everyday and this Max for big occasions. The day you host ten or twelve people, the difference is obvious: you fill the tub once and serve without restarting. This review goes beyond the opinion: how to use it, set it, troubleshoot, and above all know whether this format is really for you, because it has an obvious flaw, the bulk.

What I liked

Why the Max rather than another model
Two reasons, and only two, justify moving up to the Max:
- The volume. 4.4 L and 12 servings is the tub that does not force you to restart in the middle of a party. If you often host ten people or more, it is the one.
- Strong cocktails. The reinforced motor and Frozen Cocktail Max let it keep a thick texture even with more alcoholic drinks (up to ~20 %), where a small model struggles.
For everything else (a household, sodas, milkshakes, classic margaritas), the XL FS601 does the same in a more compact form, and the FS301 adds Frappé. The Max only makes sense if the “large gathering” use is real. Like the Pro models, it carries SlushAssist: it detects the ingredients and the mixing resistance to adjust the texture by itself, and alerts you if the mix lacks sugar.
Sugar and alcohol: the rule that does everything
The Max uses no ice: it cools just below 0 °C, and it is the sugar (or a substitute, or alcohol) that stops the ice block. Without antifreeze, it does not take, or it freezes hard.
To remember
- At least ~4 to 5 % sugar in the mix. Sodas, juices and syrups pass on their own; pure “zero” drinks do not. Substitute: allulose (about 1/2 tbsp per 200 ml) or 1 to 2 tbsp syrup/sugar per serving.
- Frozen Cocktail: up to ~16 % alcohol. Frozen Cocktail Max: up to ~20 %, this model’s strong point.
- SlushAssist flags a lack of sugar. If it beeps, add syrup or sugar and restart; if a cocktail stays liquid, it is too strong, top up with a little water or soda.

In the kitchen with the Max (my take)
What I appreciate most is the peace of mind: I launch a big batch of slush or frozen cocktail before the guests arrive, the keep-cold hold does the rest, and I no longer have to deal with it. SlushAssist is perfect when someone else wants a refill without knowing the settings. And yes, it is fast: on my usual mixes, I am well on the 15 min rhythm, twice as fast as my FS301.
As on the XL, the Frappé is missing: for an iced coffee I rather bring out my FS301. And let us be honest about the bulk: this 4.4 L tub takes up space, so I only recommend it if the “large gathering” use is real. For everyday use for two, it is oversized. The compressor makes a background hum, present but not bothersome.

For a 20 € difference, the Max mainly brings more tub and a beefier motor on strong cocktails. If you are hesitating and your parties stay “family-sized”, the XL is plenty. - On paper as in use, yes: RapidChill Pro aims for 15 min, versus 30 min on the FS301. The real time depends on the ingredients, the volume and their starting temperature (15 to 60 min).
- What is the difference with the XL FS601?
- Same programs and same speed. The Max has a bigger tub (4.4 L versus 3.7 L), up to 12 servings and a reinforced motor that helps it on very alcoholic cocktails. The XL stays perfect for the family.
- Why does my machine beep or not set?
- Most often a lack of sugar: add 1 to 2 spoons of syrup or sugar per serving. If a cocktail stays liquid, it is too alcoholic: stay under ~20 % with Frozen Cocktail Max.
- Is it noisy?
- It is a compressor, so there is a background hum, present but which most users do not find bothersome. You chat beside it without any trouble.
- Can you make coffee frappés?
- Not with a dedicated program: Frappé is reserved for the FS301. On the Max, you go through the Milkshake, adjusting the texture.
The verdict
The Max FS605 is the machine for large gatherings: maximum volume, strong cocktails, automatic mode and long keep-cold hold, all twice as fast as the FS301. If you host often, it is the one. For more modest use or frappés, the FS301 remains more relevant, and the XL offers an in-between format for 20 € less.
