Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Milkshake (milkshake)
A preparation without added ice cubes to preserve all the intensity of the fruit, with a much more velvety texture than a classic blender. No more blenders crushing ice and drowning out the melon: the Slushi freezes the mixture directly without diluting it. You get an intensely fruity, perfectly frosted, and smooth drink. If you enjoy the vanilla milkshake with the Ninja Slushi, this refreshing variation will quickly become a summer evening classic.

minutesA preparation without ice cubes for a melon milkshake with a velvety texture and preserved flavor. No more diluted mixtures: the machine freezes your base directly for an ultra-fruity result.
Ingredients
400 g ripe melon flesh
400 ml whole milk (or plant-based drink)
30 g granulated sugar (or honey)
1 sachet vanilla sugar
A few fresh mint leaves (optional)
Instructions
- Cut the melon flesh into pieces and blend it with the milk, granulated sugar, vanilla sugar, and mint until perfectly smooth. Finely blending the melon prevents fibers from blocking the Slushi’s auger.
- Pour the mixture into the Ninja Slushi bowl, making sure to stay between the min and max lines.
- Select the Milkshake program and let the machine churn until a creamy, frozen consistency is reached. The sugar prevents the milk from crystallizing into a hard block during cooling.
- Serve immediately in tall glasses with a wide straw to enjoy a smooth texture.
Plant-based melon-almond version
Plant-based melon-almond version : Replace cow’s milk with unsweetened almond milk and the sugar with a tablespoon of agave syrup, the flavor combination is excellent.
Why blend the base before putting it in the machine?
To prepare drinks based on fresh fruits like melon, the preliminary blending step is crucial. Behind the counter, one often tends to want to throw everything into the bowl to go faster, but the Ninja Slushi is not a blender. Its blades are designed to churn and cool gently, not to grind. Melon is rich in water but also contains fibers that, if left whole, can wrap around the auger and disrupt consistent churning. That is why I always recommend reducing your fruit to a liquid and perfectly smooth puree with your milk. You will get a visually uniform result and an infinitely smoother mouthfeel, similar to a banana milkshake with the Ninja Slushi. By smoothing the preparation, you also ensure a homogeneous distribution of sugar, which is essential for flawless freezing.
The sugar rule: my anti-freeze tip
The most common mistake when starting with frozen milky drinks is wanting to drastically reduce the sugar. The problem with this type of appliance is that without sufficient sugar, the milk and fruit water will freeze into a hard block of ice, which often results in the machine’s lights flashing an error signal. Sugar acts as a natural anti-freeze: it lowers the freezing point and allows the Milkshake program to maintain the preparation in a semi-liquid, supple state. For this recipe, I balance the 400 ml of milk with about forty grams of total sugars (granulated sugar and vanilla sugar). This dosage guarantees a texture that is perfectly drinkable with a straw. If your melon is naturally very low in sugar, don’t hesitate to add a little extra sugar before pouring the mixture into the bowl.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my melon milkshake freezing too much and blocking the machine?
It is almost always a lack of sugar or filling beyond the max line. Since sugar prevents the liquid from hardening completely, add a spoonful of syrup or liquid cane sugar, let it sit for a few minutes, and restart the program.
Can I use already frozen melon pieces?
No, it is not recommended. The Ninja Slushi is designed to lower the temperature of an ambient or refrigerated liquid itself. If your base is already frozen, the mixture will be too hard for the blades and the machine will enter safety mode.
Is the Milkshake program available on the more compact model (FS301)?
Yes, all current models (the FS301, the XL, and the Max) have the Milkshake preset. It is the essential setting for achieving gentle churning that doesn’t crystallize the milk fat.
