Hazelnut banana split slush

Ninja Slushi compatibility

Program used: Milkshake (milkshake)

The spirit of the famous dessert revisited in a frozen version, with a dairy base where banana and hazelnut balance perfectly. I love preparing this drink for the afternoon, it results in something halfway between a dessert and a refreshment. It is crucial to blend the banana very finely beforehand: whole fibers block the mixing auger. This way you will get a perfectly homogeneous liquid that will turn into a thick preparation to sip with a straw.

Ingredients

  • 600 ml whole milk

  • 2 very ripe blended bananas (about 200 ml puree)

  • 100 ml hazelnut syrup

  • 50 ml strawberry syrup

  • 50 ml chocolate sauce

Instructions

  • In a standard blender, blend the bananas with the milk, hazelnut syrup, strawberry syrup, and chocolate sauce until you get a perfectly smooth liquid without any chunks. Blending finely prevents pieces that could damage the machine’s system.
  • Pour this homogeneous preparation into the Ninja Slushi bowl. The total volume of about 1 liter is ideally between the min and max markers.
  • Select the Milkshake program and let the machine work until a very dense texture is achieved. The Milkshake mode handles dairy bases gently to prevent them from churning.
  • Serve in large glasses, ideally topped with whipped cream and some flaked almonds to recall the original dessert.

Gourmet coffee version

Gourmet coffee version: Add a cold espresso into the blender before starting the program to bring a roasted touch that wakes up the hazelnut (Frappé style).

The importance of sugar and blending

To succeed with a liquid dessert in the Ninja Slushi, the balance of sugars is fundamental. Here, I don’t use standard granulated sugar: the syrups and chocolate sauce ensure the setting without freezing solid. This is the famous antifreeze rule that applies to all our tests. If your base lacks carbohydrates, it will turn into a block of ice and strain the motor. Conversely, this recipe contains enough liquid sugars to guarantee a velvety result. Furthermore, I often receive questions about using fresh fruit. Keep in mind that the Ninja Slushi is not a blender, it only has a simple mixing auger. This is why I advise you to always reduce your fruits to a smooth puree before pouring them into the bowl. A poorly mashed banana risks clumping and causing the error lights to flash.

Why choose the Milkshake mode?

You have probably noticed, the Ninja Slushi offers several settings depending on what you pour into the bowl. For dairy bases, the Milkshake program is essential. Models like the FS301, FS601, or FS605 all include it by default. This setting is designed to gently cool whole milk, which contains fats sensitive to churning. If you used a more aggressive mode, you would risk getting a grainy consistency, or even separating the fat from the water. I made the mistake during my first tests with condensed milk, and it was not successful at all. Here, the machine stirs slowly, which allows the whole mixture to remain fluid and airy. If you like to vary the pleasures and test dairy-free preparations, I suggest exploring other fruity horizons like my Pineapple Slush with the Ninja Slushi or the classic Blue Raspberry Slush with the Ninja Slushi, which perfectly utilize other programs.

Do you put whipped cream on your version or do you drink it plain?

Frequently asked questions

Why is my machine making an unusual noise during this recipe?

This is often a sign that banana fibers are blocking the auger. Make sure you have blended the fruit puree as finely as possible before pouring it in.

Can I replace the whole milk with a plant-based drink?

Yes, oat or almond milk works well. The consistency will simply be a bit less rich on the palate because these alternatives contain less fat.

The mixture is not setting and remains too liquid, what should I do?

It might be very hot in your room, or your starting milk was lukewarm. Let the Milkshake program run for ten to fifteen minutes more.

How long can this drink be kept in the fridge?

Banana-based preparations oxidize quickly. I recommend consuming it immediately after the cycle ends to enjoy its intact aromas.
