Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Frozen Cocktail (frozen cocktail)
The frozen margarita is the cocktail I pull out as soon as there are a few of us on the terrace. On my first try, I added too much tequila: since alcohol doesn’t freeze, the slush stayed stubbornly liquid. So I adjusted the proportions to find the balance between the bite of the agave, the acidity of the lime, and real cold-holding power. You get a well-set slush, perfect for a thick straw or straight from the glass.

minutesA frozen margarita with a thick slushy texture, prepared without crushed ice thanks to the Frozen Cocktail program.
Ingredients
115 ml tequila (preferably blanco)
60 ml triple sec (like Cointreau or Grand Marnier)
150 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
120 ml agave syrup (or cane sugar syrup)
620 ml water
Fine salt and lime wedges (for rimming the glasses)
Instructions
- In a pitcher, mix the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, agave syrup, and water. The water replaces classic crushed ice and balances the alcohol level to allow the mixture to freeze.
- Pour the mixture into the Ninja Slushi bowl, ensuring that the final level is between the MIN and MAX lines.
- Select the Frozen Cocktail program and let it run until you achieve a thick slushy texture.
- While the machine is running, run a lime wedge around half the rim of your glasses, then dip them into a small plate of fine salt. The salt on the glass enhances the aromas and contrasts with the lime’s acidity.
- Serve the slush immediately in the rimmed glasses to enjoy its freshness.
Strawberry Frozen Margarita
Strawberry Frozen Margarita : Replace 150 ml of water with 150 ml of strained strawberry puree for a fruity and colorful version, especially popular in summer.
The alcohol-sugar balance, the key to a good freeze
The big pitfall with frozen cocktails is the amount of alcohol which acts as an antifreeze. If you are too heavy-handed with the tequila, the liquid will never freeze properly in the machine. That is why I recommend measuring your spirits precisely and using agave syrup: its density promotes a smooth texture and prevents the formation of ice blocks. If you are looking for ideas for guests who do not drink alcohol, do not hesitate to consult my Frozen virgin mojito with the Ninja Slushi, which is just as refreshing.
What to do if the margarita stays liquid or flashes?
If your device beeps or the indicator light flashes without the ice setting, it is often a sign of a lack of sugar or an excess of alcohol compared to the volume of water. In this case, I simply add a splash of agave syrup and a small trickle of water directly into the bowl, before restarting the Frozen Cocktail program. Also remember to be patient with alcoholic preparations: freezing takes some time, but chilling your liquids in the refrigerator before pouring them in significantly speeds things up.
Are you more of a classic lime margarita person, or are you tempted by a fruit version?
Frequently asked questions
Why does my margarita stay liquid in the Slushi?
This is a sign that there is too much alcohol or not enough sugar, as alcohol lowers the freezing point. Add a little water and agave syrup to restart the freezing process.
Can I use bottled lime juice?
Technically yes, but I highly recommend freshly squeezed lime juice. The natural acidity and essential oils completely transform the flavor of the cocktail.
How long does it take for the frozen texture to be ready?
Expect about 45 minutes in the machine depending on your room temperature. To speed up the process, you can place your alcohol bottles and water in the refrigerator a few hours before.
