Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Frozen Cocktail (frozen cocktail)
There is nothing like a frozen Piña Colada to feel like you are on vacation, with a perfect texture thanks to the Ninja Slushi, without having to use a blender. I had to adjust the sugar with the coconut cream so that it sets well in the machine, as the balance is subtle. The result is deliciously velvety and fruity, offering a frozen cocktail that stays chilled for a long time. If you like bold flavors, you might also enjoy a non-alcoholic ginger beer frozen slush for your summer evenings.

minutesAn authentic frozen Piña Colada, easily prepared in the Ninja Slushi for a perfect straw-sipping texture.
Ingredients
400 ml pineapple juice (100% pure juice)
200 ml coconut cream (or very rich coconut milk)
250 ml water
100 ml white rum
50 g liquid cane sugar (or simple syrup)
Instructions
- In a container, mix the pineapple juice, coconut cream, water, white rum, and liquid sugar until you get a smooth preparation. Since alcohol prevents freezing, we limit it below the machine’s maximum threshold.
- Pour the mixture into the Ninja Slushi bowl, checking that the level is well between the min and max markers.
- Select the Frozen Cocktail program and let the machine run (approximately 45 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature).
- Once the straw-sippable texture is reached, serve immediately in glasses and garnish with a piece of fresh pineapple.
Virgin Piña Colada (non-alcoholic)
Virgin Piña Colada (non-alcoholic): Replace the rum with the same amount of water or extra pineapple juice, and start the Slush program.

View recipeWhy add sugar to a pineapple cocktail?
The secret to a good granita is sugar: without it, or with an insufficient amount, the preparation freezes into a solid block instead of crystallizing gently. Even if your pineapple juice is sweet and the coconut cream adds richness, it often needs a little boost. Adding simple syrup compensates for the lack of free sugar and helps the Ninja Slushi create that ideal consistency for sipping through a straw.
Managing alcohol and texture in the bowl
The other challenge with a Piña Colada is the rum. Alcohol significantly lowers the freezing point. If you add too much, the machine will run endlessly without ever managing to freeze the liquid. This is why I voluntarily limit the quantity to 100 ml for this total volume: it is enough for the taste, and it ensures it sets in 45 minutes on the Frozen Cocktail program. If you double the quantities, always keep this ratio in mind.
With or without alcohol for your next summer party?
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Piña Colada stay liquid?
This is often due to an excess of rum or a lack of sugar. Make sure to stick to the 100 ml of alcohol for this recipe.
Can I use canned coconut milk?
Yes, but prefer very high-fat milks (over 17%) or ideally coconut cream to prevent the fat from separating from the water as it freezes.
Can I use the Slush program?
For the classic version with alcohol, the Frozen Cocktail program is essential. If you are making the virgin version, the Slush program will work perfectly.
