Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Frozen Juice (frozen juice)
No more ice cubes diluting the flavour at the bottom of the blender, the Slushi freezes the preparation directly for a perfect texture. For this recipe, I use banana and apple to soften the green leaves, resulting in a very fresh and naturally sweet treat. If you have already tried our Spinach and kiwi green smoothie with Ninja Slushi, you know how well the machine excels at thick juices. The Frozen Juice programme will turn this liquid base into a velvety, frosty drink, ideal for a vitamin-packed wake-up call or a refreshing break.

minutesA perfectly frosty green smoothie, without dilution, where the sweetness of the banana and apple juice balances the freshness of the spinach.
Ingredients
400 ml apple juice
300 ml almond milk
2 ripe bananas
100 g fresh spinach
30 ml agave syrup
Instructions
- In a regular blender, mix the apple juice, almond milk, bananas, spinach, and agave syrup until the liquid is perfectly smooth. Blending finely before using the Slushi prevents the fibres from blocking the auger.
- Pour this green mixture into the Ninja Slushi vessel, ensuring it is within the min and max fill lines of the vessel.
- Select the Frozen Juice programme and let the machine work until you reach the desired consistency, ideally drinkable through a thick straw.
Post-workout protein version

View recipeThe importance of preparation before the Slushi
I am often asked if it is possible to throw spinach leaves directly into the machine. The answer is a big no. The Slushi is not a blender, it does not cut, it cools by stirring. Unblended fibres will wrap around the auger, which risks blocking the motor and ruining your preparation. I always run my smoothies through a standard blender until there are no chunks left before filling the vessel. This is the secret to a fluid drink, just as it is for my Dragon fruit and hibiscus smoothie.
The role of sugar in frozen textures
In a green smoothie, we often want to limit sugar. However, in the Ninja Slushi, sugar acts as an essential anti-freeze. Ripe bananas and apple juice provide a fructose base, but the agave syrup helps secure the setting. Without this minimum of 5 g of sugar per 100 ml, the cold will bind the water into a big hard block of ice that is impossible to drink through a straw. If you find that the drink is freezing too quickly or flashing during the cycle, it is usually a sign that it was missing a touch of sweetness.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use water instead of apple juice?
I don’t recommend it. Water will drastically lower the sugar content, which will turn your smoothie into a hard block of ice. The apple juice is crucial for the texture.
How long does it take for the smoothie to set?
On the Frozen Juice programme, allow about 50 minutes. This depends on the initial temperature of your ingredients: keep your almond milk and apple juice well chilled before starting.
My smoothie caused the lights to flash, why?
This is often a sign that the mixture is freezing too solidly, either because it is lacking a bit of sugar, or because spinach fibres have blocked the auger. Make sure to blend very finely beforehand.
