Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Slush (slushie)
This drink is one of my favourites when the weather is hot: it perfectly combines the acidity of lime, the sweetness of coconut and the freshness of mint. In the Ninja Slushi, the result is particularly pleasant because you get a refreshing, straw-sippable texture without the sparkling water losing all its pep. A small piece of advice before you start: strain the mint well, otherwise the pieces will get stuck in the auger. This ensures smooth serving and a machine that runs without straining.

minutesA very refreshing drink that combines the acidity of lime, the sweetness of coconut and the freshness of mint.
Ingredients
500 ml coconut water
350 ml sparkling water (or still)
150 ml lime juice
100 g caster sugar (or sugar cane syrup)
A dozen fresh mint leaves
Instructions
- In a vessel, mix the coconut water, lime juice and sugar until completely dissolved. Sugar is essential, otherwise the liquid will freeze into a solid block.
- Gently add the sparkling water and the slightly bruised mint leaves to infuse the mixture.
- Strain the mixture through a sieve to remove the mint leaves (to avoid clogging the machine).
- Pour the liquid mixture into the Ninja Slushi vessel (about 1.1 L, ensuring you stay between the min and max fill lines).
- Select the programme Slush and let it run for about 45 minutes until you reach the desired straw-sippable consistency.
Coconut mojito cocktail version
Add 150 ml of white rum to the mixture (reducing the coconut water by the same amount) and use the programme Frozen Cocktail.

View recipeWhy sugar and straining are non-negotiable
When preparing this type of drink, the classic mistake is wanting to skip the sugar to have a lighter drink. It’s tempting, but in the Ninja Slushi, sugar is essential for the texture. Without it, your preparation will freeze into a hard block instead of forming those little crystals that are so pleasant to sip through a straw. With a ratio of 100 grams per litre of liquid, you are right in the sweet spot for the machine to do its job correctly on the programme Slush. The other crucial point is handling fresh herbs. Mint brings an incomparable fragrance, but its fibres are formidable for the device’s mechanics. I always take the time to bruise the leaves well to release the aromas, I let them infuse, then I must strain everything. If you like tropical pairings, you can also apply this same careful preparation principle to other recipes, or get inspired by our Kiwi coconut milkshake in the Ninja Slushi to explore other flavours.
Managing sparkling water and switching to cocktail mode
Using sparkling water in a granita can sometimes be surprising. In practice, the continuous mixing of the paddle will inevitably cause some of the bubbles to be lost during the 45 minutes of cooling. However, I continue to use it because it brings a residual sparkling sensation that is very pleasant on the palate, and a lightness to the whole that is sometimes missing with still water. If you notice that the liquid foams too much when pouring it in, wait a few seconds before reaching the max fill line to avoid it overflowing. For those who prefer an aperitif version, the transition to a revisited mojito is very simple: the rum integrates perfectly, but don’t forget to switch the machine to the programme Frozen Cocktail. Alcohol does indeed lower the freezing point, and this setting allows the system to compensate to ensure optimal results without exhausting the motor. The key remains to measure your volumes carefully.
Are you adding a little rum for pre-dinner drinks, or are you sticking with the soft version?
Frequently asked questions
Why does my lemonade freeze into a hard block?
It’s a lack of sugar. Aim for about 100 g of sugar per litre of liquid so that the programme Slush forms nice, fluid crystals.
Can I leave the mint leaves in the vessel?
No, you must absolutely strain the liquid before pouring it in. The mint pieces risk wrapping themselves around the auger.
Which model should I use for the rum version?
The alcoholic version requires the programme Frozen Cocktail, which is available on all machines (FS301, FS601, FS605).
