Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Milkshake (milkshake)
The advantage of the Slushi for this classic is that there is no need to add ice cubes, which dilute the flavor, to get a perfectly chilled drink. With a standard blender, you need ice. Here, the Slushi freezes the milk directly without watering it down. The result is a truly velvety drink, with a cocoa and fruit flavor that remains bold from the first sip to the last.

minutesA gourmet classic where the Slushi cools and thickens the mixture without using any ice cubes.
Ingredients
600 ml whole milk (or semi-skimmed)
300 g chocolate ice cream (about 4 generous scoops)
2 ripe bananas (about 200 g once peeled)
Instructions
- In a standard blender or separate container, mix the milk, chocolate ice cream, and bananas until you have a completely liquid and smooth base. Blending beforehand prevents large banana chunks that could interfere with the auger.
- Pour the mixture into the Ninja Slushi tank. Ensure the level is between the MIN and MAX lines (here the total volume will be about 1100 ml).
- Select the Milkshake program and let the machine work. Since the mixture is sweetened by the ice cream and fruit, the chilling process will occur without forming a hard block.
- Let it churn until it reaches a straw-thick consistency, then serve immediately in tall glasses.

100% plant-based version: Replace cow’s milk with oat or hazelnut milk, and use a vegan chocolate ice cream (based on coconut milk, for example).

View recipeWhy pre-blending is essential
I often see users wanting to use their machine like a food processor. However, the Ninja Slushi is not a blender. If you put whole banana slices into the tank, they will block the auger and the machine will trigger an error. You must always prepare a completely liquid and smooth base beforehand. It’s the same logic I apply for my banana coconut milkshake with the Ninja Slushi: we blend separately, and the machine only handles the texture and the cooling.
The sugar rule to avoid a block of ice
For a mixture to keep a pleasant consistency for sipping, it needs a natural antifreeze. Here, the sugar from the ice cream and the ripe bananas plays this role. If you try to make a milkshake with just milk and bitter cocoa powder, the liquid will freeze into a hard block on the walls. The Milkshake program is calibrated to slowly stir this type of rich dairy preparation, resulting in a creamy and homogeneous finish. If you like varying your fruity pleasures, you can also test this approach on a red berry milkshake.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put banana chunks directly into the tank?
No, the Slushi does not have blades to blend. You must blend your ingredients separately to obtain a smooth liquid before pouring it into the machine, otherwise the auger may get stuck.
Do I need to add sugar to prevent it from freezing too hard?
In this specific recipe, the ripe bananas and the chocolate ice cream provide enough sugar to act as an antifreeze and ensure a straw-friendly texture.
Why does the machine take a long time to reach the right consistency?
If your ingredients (like the milk) were at room temperature, the process will take longer. To save time, always use liquids taken directly from the refrigerator.
