Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Slush (slushie)
With its high water content, watermelon is the ideal fruit to test the machine’s classic program during hot weather. No more ice cubes diluting the taste in a blender: just blend the fruit and the device manages the cold. You get an intensely fruity result, with a velvety and very thirst-quenching texture, perfect for sipping directly through a straw. The vibrant color of this frozen preparation always makes an impact at cocktail hour, without requiring much effort.

minutesAn intensely fruity slush made with 100% fresh, undiluted watermelon, prepared directly in your machine.
Ingredients
800 ml watermelon juice (obtained by blending about 1.2 kg seedless flesh)
50 ml cane sugar syrup (or agave syrup)
30 ml fresh lime juice
Instructions
- Blend the watermelon flesh in a blender then pass it through a fine sieve to collect only the liquid. Filtering the pulp gives a smoother result and protects the device’s auger.
- In a pitcher, thoroughly mix the watermelon juice, lime juice, and sugar syrup. Watermelon is full of water: this added sugar acts as an antifreeze for a successful slush.
- Pour the preparation into the Ninja Slushi bowl, making sure to stay between the min and max marks.
- Select the Slush program and let it run until you reach a consistency sippable through a straw (about 45 minutes), then serve immediately.
Watermelon and Mint Slush
Watermelon and Mint Slush : Infuse a handful of fresh mint leaves in your syrup before incorporating it into the watermelon juice for a herbal note.
Sugar dosage, the trick to avoiding a block of ice
I often hear that watermelon is already sweet enough and that adding syrup is unnecessary. This is quite true from a taste perspective, but in our machine, sugar acts as a real antifreeze. If you just use pure juice, the cold will solidify the water in the fruit and you’ll end up with a hard ice cube blocking the churning auger. I made this mistake during my very first summer trials! To avoid this trap, I always aim for about 10% sugar relative to the total volume. This is the perfect ratio to maintain a liquid that crystallizes just enough to form the expected texture. If you find the final taste lacks a bit of punch, lime juice wonderfully breaks the sweetness. Moreover, if you like tangier notes, you could also try my homemade lemon slush, which follows exactly the same balancing principle.
Why filtering the fruit is a crucial step
When making this drink in a classic blender, we tend to keep the pulp. This is a habit to change with your countertop appliance. I’ve noticed through use that thick fibers can accumulate around the auger and disrupt its regular rotation. By passing your blended flesh through a fine sieve, you get a very smooth nectar that will freeze much more uniformly. The mouthfeel then becomes completely different, much finer, without those little pieces that clog the straw. It takes a few extra minutes during preparation, but the difference is obvious. Don’t hesitate to press the residue against the sieve to extract maximum flavor. This simple step turns the result from a simple thick smoothie into a true professional-quality frozen drink. For fruit variations on this same principle, take a look at my recipe for homemade strawberry slush with the Ninja Slushi, very popular as soon as the warm weather returns.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my machine display an error code while churning the watermelon?
This is often a sign of a lack of sugar, which makes the mixture too hard and strains the motor. Let it melt for five minutes, add a splash of syrup, and restart the cycle.
Can I use pre-frozen watermelon cubes?
No, you must pour in liquid at room temperature or from the refrigerator. The machine cools it itself, introducing already frozen pieces could damage the churning system.
Which model should I choose to make this recipe without any issues?
All models in the range have the basic Slush program, which is perfect for this type of preparation. On the FS301, since the bowl is more compact, be sure to respect the maximum fill line.
