Strawberry banana milkshake with the Ninja Slushi

Ninja Slushi compatibility

Program used: Milkshake (milkshake)

No more blenders that coarsely chop ice cubes or dilute the flavor: the machine freezes the milk and fruit directly for an authentic American diner texture. Unlike my old blender milkshakes where I had to add ice cubes, here we keep 100% of the fruit’s intensity. You get a creamy and intensely fruity result, perfect for sipping through a straw while staying cool.

A fruity milkshake without ice cubes, churned directly in the Ninja Slushi for perfect creaminess.

Ingredients

  • 300 g hulled strawberries (fresh or previously thawed frozen ones)

  • 2 very ripe bananas

  • 500 ml milk (semi-skimmed or oat/soy beverage)

  • 2 tablespoons agave syrup (or honey/powdered sugar)

  • 1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Process the strawberries, bananas, milk, agave syrup, and vanilla in a standard blender or with an immersion blender until the liquid is perfectly smooth. Blending the fruit finely is essential: the machine’s auger cannot handle large pieces.
  • Pour this smooth mixture into the Ninja Slushi vessel, making sure to fill it between the MIN and MAX marks.
  • Select the Milkshake program and let the machine run until you achieve an airy and thick texture.
  • Serve with a wide straw or a spoon, immediately after the cycle ends to enjoy the perfect consistency.

Gourmet sundae-style version

Gourmet sundae-style version : Replace 100 ml of milk with two large scoops of vanilla ice cream in the initial blend (as I often do for my vanilla milkshake recipe), and drizzle strawberry coulis inside your glasses before serving.

Sugar balance, the key to a successful milkshake

As you know if you frequently test my recipes: the key point with this machine is the sugar. It is the natural antifreeze for your preparation. Without it, the mixture freezes into a large block of ice around the auger instead of staying fluid and drinkable. For this strawberry-banana milkshake, the fruits already provide a good fructose base, especially if you use very ripe bananas. However, the cold numbs our taste buds slightly. So I always add one to two tablespoons of agave syrup to ensure not only a balanced taste, but above all a supple texture. If your machine is struggling to set the mixture or the result is too hard, it is usually a sign that it needs a touch more sugar at the start.

Which milk to choose and how to manage expansion?

I have tested this recipe with many dairy alternatives. Cow’s milk (semi-skimmed or whole) gives excellent results with the Milkshake program thanks to its fat content which helps it froth well. If you prefer plant-based, know that ‘barista’ style oat or soy beverages work wonderfully: they freeze very well and offer a lovely creaminess. Just be very careful with the filling: milk tends to expand, meaning it increases in volume, as it cools and is churned. That is why I recommend always staying slightly below the MAX mark on your vessel. If the indicator lights flash during the cycle, check that the liquid is not overflowing onto the machine’s upper sensor.

Are you more of a dairy milk or plant-based (oat, soy) fan for your homemade milkshakes?

Frequently asked questions

Why does my machine beep or stop while making the milkshake?

This is often due to poorly blended fruit pieces at the start or a lack of sugar (making the mixture too hard). Ensure you have a completely smooth liquid in the blender before pouring and do not hesitate to add a splash of syrup.

Can frozen strawberries be used for this recipe?

Yes, it is even excellent for cooling the base faster! Just make sure to thaw them slightly before blending to ensure a perfectly smooth mix.

On my FS301 model, which is smaller, do I need to adjust the quantities?

The recipe fits in the FS301, but watch the milk expansion. If your liquid gets too close to the MAX mark, remove a bit of the preparation: the Milkshake program is identical, only the capacity changes.
