Ninja Slushi compatibility
Program used: Slush (slushie)
Forget the laborious freezer bag technique that requires kneading every half hour: simply pouring the bottle directly into the tank is enough. My first attempt with zero-sugar cola turned into a hard block on the cylinder due to a lack of sugar. With the classic version, however, you very quickly get a fresh and smooth drink, drinkable through a straw. An express preparation with a caramelized scent, ideal for improvising a round of frosted glasses without effort!

minutesSimply pour your bottle of classic cola into the machine to get a perfect slushie ready to drink in 30 minutes.
Ingredients
1 litre of classic cola (definitely not a sugar-free version)
2 tablespoons of lime juice (optional, for acidity)
Instructions
- If your cola is very fizzy, degas it slightly by stirring it gently beforehand to prevent it from foaming excessively in the machine.
- Pour the classic cola and lime juice into the Ninja Slushi tank, ensuring the level is between the min and max marks. The natural sugar in classic soda is essential to prevent the mixture from freezing into a solid block.
- Select the Slush program and let the appliance run.
- Once the slush texture is reached (allow about thirty minutes), serve immediately with a thick straw.
Slush-style Cuba Libre
Slush-style Cuba Libre : Add 150 ml of dark rum to the cola and switch to the Frozen Cocktail program to compensate for the freezing point of the alcohol.
The golden rule of sugar with sodas
On paper, preparing a refreshing calorie-free drink sounds like a dream. In practice with a countertop appliance, it is a guaranteed disaster. The machine absolutely needs a sugar ratio of about 100 grams per litre to act as an antifreeze. Without this safety net, the water crystallizes instantly and the blade painfully scrapes against a cylinder encased in ice. Therefore, you must stick to classic soda to guarantee a finely iced result that will not strain the motor.
Managing foam and carbon dioxide
If you have already handled other types of ice cream makers, you have probably noticed that carbonated drinks tend to gain a lot of volume as they cool. In the transparent tank, a very fizzy soda poured abruptly risks overflowing from the top during mixing. My habit? I remove a bit of gas by stirring the liquid in a pitcher beforehand, and above all, I never exceed the max mark on the tank. It is a very useful precautionary principle that I apply in the same way when I prepare my homemade ginger ale slushie.

Frequently asked questions
Can zero or light cola be used for this slushie?
Definitely not! Sweeteners do not have the anti-freeze properties of real sugar. Your drink will freeze into a compact block and risks jamming the appliance blade.
Why is my machine flashing and stopping halfway through?
This is often a sign that the mixture is too dense and is straining the system. Check that you are using classic (sugared) soda and that you have not exceeded the maximum level of the tank, which happens quickly with the foam from a very carbonated soda.
Can I prepare a cola with alcohol directly on Slush mode?
As soon as you include alcohol (as for a Cuba Libre), you must switch to the Frozen Cocktail program, which is calibrated to handle a lower freezing point and avoid a poor texture.
