Strawberry, Beetroot and Orange Smoothie in the Ninja Slushi

Ninja Slushi compatibility

Program used: Frozen Juice (frozen juice)

The combination of beetroot and fruit creates a surprising drink that takes on a perfectly refreshing slush texture in the machine. Coconut milk and honey soften the bitterness of the beetroot and ensure the slush does not freeze into a solid block. It is the perfect alternative if you want a change from the classic Strawberry Slushie while maintaining intense freshness.

The combination of beetroot and fruit creates a surprising drink that takes on a perfectly refreshing slush texture in the machine.

Ingredients

  • 350 ml orange juice (pulp-free)

  • 300 g strawberries, hulled

  • 150 g cooked red beetroot

  • 200 ml coconut milk

  • 100 ml honey (or agave syrup)

Instructions

  • Blend the orange juice, strawberries, beetroot, coconut milk, and honey until the liquid is perfectly smooth. You must blend thoroughly to avoid blocking the auger.
  • Pour this smooth mixture into the Ninja Slushi bowl between the min and max fill lines (the level should ideally be around 1100 ml).
  • Select the Frozen Juice program and let the machine slush the mixture for about 45 minutes.
  • Serve directly through a straw as soon as the slushy consistency is to your liking.

All-fruit version

All-fruit version: If beetroot puts the kids off, replace it with blended banana or carrot, keeping the same total volume.

The importance of honey for texture

The secret to a great texture in the Ninja Slushi always relies on the sugar ratio. In this recipe, the beetroot brings an earthy note and the coconut milk adds creaminess, but without significant sugar, the mixture would freeze into a solid block. Honey or agave syrup is essential for the set: it acts as a natural antifreeze. It is what allows you to achieve that slushy, straw-friendly result instead of a giant ice cube. If you find the mixture is not sweet enough before pouring it in, do not hesitate to add a tablespoon of honey.

Why use cooked beetroot?

I always use precooked beetroot for this type of frozen juice. Raw beetroot would be far too fibrous, even with a good blender, and would risk blocking the auger of your machine. The Frozen Juice program requires a perfectly smooth liquid. If you like original and velvety blends, you can also take a look at my Tropical Mango and Pineapple Smoothie Bowl. The idea is the same: blend thoroughly before letting the cold do its work, making sure to always stay below the max fill line of the bowl.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use raw beetroot?

No, I strongly advise against it. Raw beetroot will leave hard bits that could damage the auger of your Ninja Slushi. Always use cooked beetroot.

Why is the machine showing an error?

If the lights are flashing, it is often because the mixture is not sweet enough (it freezes too hard) or the bowl is filled above the max fill line. Add a little honey and water.

Can I keep the leftovers in the machine?

You can keep the drink cold during your party. For the next day, I recommend emptying the bowl and storing the liquid in the refrigerator, then restarting it in the machine later.
